82ND AIRBORNE DIVISION ASSOCIATION - HAMPTON ROADS ALL SERVICES CHAPTER
Notes from the Chapter Chairman regarding the Corona Virus
Greetings to our devoted Hampton Roads 82nd Chapter member and families:
We are currently in the middle of the worldwide Corona-virus pandemic. The purpose of this unscheduled newsletter is to reach out to all of you to make sure you are well and bring you up to date on canceled, postponed or upcoming Chapter events.
We have had a heck of a 2019/2020 year. Starting off with our end of summer (2019) and start back of our regular meetings held on the third Thursday of the month September; plumbing and structural issues at the V.F.W. 3219 in Phoebus caused us to cancel that regularly scheduled meeting. Then for our traditional Thanksgiving meal and meeting, the V.F.W. 3219 was forced to close again due to plumbing problems in the bathrooms. Luckily, Kip Keziah had a contact at the American Legion, Post 25 in Newport News and we were able to secure a large meeting room to conduct our Thanksgiving meal and meeting, and to make things even better, Kip also negotiated with Mission BBQ to cater a fabulous BBQ & chicken meal with all of the fixings. Kip really saved the day for our November meeting. Our Executive Board had decided to no longer maintain Chapter Sales and allowed the membership to select and keep at no charge items that they wanted and the remainder was donated to the 82nd Airborne Historical Society at Fort Bragg, N.C.
December's meeting and annual Christmas Party was on-track and the V.F.W. 3219 was open and all repairs behind them. Rana Ackerman, our official 82nd Airborne Chef did an outstanding job of preparing a Turkey and a Ham with all of the traditional sides. Santa and Mrs. Claus were present and helped pass out gifts.
January's meeting was held on 16th of January, 2020 at the V.F.W. 3219 in Phoebus which was the Installation of our 2020 Executive Board.. Special Airborne Thanks to Kip for the conducting the Installation of Officers.
By the time our March 19th meeting rolls around, the Co-Vid 19 virus has made it way across the ocean and is invading cities in the U.S.A. Stay at Home orders cause the V.F.W. to close as with most businesses and "lock down" to prevent further spread.
At this time. the Williamsburg British Car Club Show that we were going to set up a booth at (thanks PJ) has been cancelled.
All American Week has been cancelled. (If you paid in advance for AAW week- you can request a refund from Bill Baurer or let it roll over to the 2021 AAW. Full details are on the National Airborne website).
At this time, we are hopeful that we WILL have our Chapter Summer PicNic, July 18th to be held at the American Legion on Tidewater Drive in Norfolk. Our Executive Board will send out postcards to confirm once we know for sure that it is safe for everyone. Our next regularly scheduled meeting will be in September. (17th September 2020).
We will continue to contact and update our membership if anything changes.
Above all, please practice Social Distancing, Stay Home, Wash your hands and STAY WELL. PLEASE reach out to myself or any of our Executive Board should you become ill with the Virus or anything else. You are ALL important to me and our Chapter.
Till our next Jump!!
